The Core Philosophy

The WEB was created to solve a legal problem, not a theological one. Almost all modern English Bibles (NIV, ESV, NKJV) are copyrighted, meaning you cannot print them, display them on websites, or build apps with them without paying royalties or strictly limiting how many verses you quote. The WEB is a Public Domain translation, meaning it is completely free for anyone to use, copy, or publish without permission.

Key Characteristics

God's Name: It is one of the few English Bibles to use Yahweh in the Old Testament instead of the traditional capitalised "LORD."
(Note: In this application, "Yahweh" has been standardized to "Yehovah" as per site preferences based on the research and work done by Dr. Nehemia Gordon - PhD, at https://www.nehemiaswall.com/1000-manuscripts-yehovah).
Majority Text: Unlike most modern Bibles (which use the "Critical Text" or "Alexandrian" Greek manuscripts), the WEB New Testament is based on the Byzantine Majority Text. This means it includes verses often relegated to footnotes in other Bibles (like Acts 8:37 or the longer ending of Mark).
Modern English: It is based on the American Standard Version (ASV) of 1901, but the language has been updated to remove "thee," "thou," and archaic grammar, making it readable for modern English speakers.

Who uses it?

It is widely used by software developers, website creators, and missionaries who need a royalty-free Bible for apps and projection software. If you see a Bible verse on a random website or free app, there is a high chance it is the WEB because of its open license.
